Round to square brake pads

Round to Square Brake Pads

My '59 xk150 just missed out on receiving the square quick change brake
pads when built. What is involved in converting to this type of system. New
wheel cylinders and pads, of course, but will the calipers have to be
change as well? Thank you in advance - Ian, 150 fhc

I converted from round pads to square pads on a 150 OTS. If you don't have
access to the parts manual, I would recommend you buy one. You will need
the square pad caliper bodies, caliper mounting adapter and all fittings
including piston-cylinder assemblies. In the early 70s I salvaged all four
caliper assemblies from a wrecked 150 DHC. So, my task was simplified since
every thing directly bolted on as though it had been done in Browns Lane. I
understand the scarcity of these parts today. So you may have to look long
and hard to find what you need. To give you more possible sources,
assemblies from a Mk IX may fit without much difficulty. I know some of
those who do vintage racing have adapted Mk IX units. Good luck. - Bob
